Behaviour Change is the Key to Getting Results

We often look for that one piece of information that’s going to change the game for us. But in reality, it’s the simple stuff that we’ve always known that works.

Nutrition is a great example. We all know what’s good and bad for us for the most part, but we keep seeking this “silver bullet” of information as opposed to actually trying the stuff we know works.

With working out we tend to look for the “perfect” program that will get us to where we want to be.

A lot of times people use this as a method of procrastination. “I haven’t started because I haven’t found the right plan for me”.

But again the things we’ve known for decades still work. “Eat right and exercise more” is overly simplistic, but it does get the point across.

Your behaviours are ultimately what’s going to dictate your future results, whether it comes to working out or your nutrition. So focus your efforts here.

You can have the greatest workout or meal plan in the world, but if you don’t follow it, what’s the point?

A strategy for how you’re going to follow a plan is more important than the plan itself.

Don’t try to make it perfect right off the bat. Go for consistency and make minor improvements and adjustments over time as necessary.

Be specific here. If you’re planning on working out three times per week, what days are you going? What time are you blocking off in your day? How are you going to set yourself up for success?

A few tips to answer these questions:

  • Make your habit as easy as possible to follow

  • Make it convenient

  • Make it satisfying

  • Set up your environment to support it

If you can do all of the above, you’ll be well on your way to changing your behaviours and thereby your results.

To your good health,

Getting started can be a tough thing to do, and the main reason is that people don’t know where to start, (especially when it comes to something as complex as deadlifting and protecting yourself from injury).
